Acupuncture for
Pain Relief
Easing
pain, through acupuncture, is a desirable first step towards
balancing a normalisation of health. In some cases,
it is sufficient action in itself as the body's own healing
mechanism will take over and do the rest. Pain is
the body's alarm signal and in the course of treatment,
it is ensured that the underlying pathological causative
factors are understood and dealt with in a safe & effective
practice. If after examination & treatment, it
is apparent there is an underlying medical problem then
we would also recommend referrals to specialists.
Acupuncture, in most cases, can switch off the pain that
has no useful role to play as a warning to patients that
all is not well. For example pain following an attack
of acute neuritis or trigeminal neuralgia.
Acupuncture is a palliative treatment in musculoskeletal
conditions such as sciatica or tendonitis of elbow (tennis
/ Golfers elbow), severe capsulitis of the shoulder joint
and bursitis. In a chronic condition where changes
of a permanent nature have occurred in a joint or other
tissues, acupuncture plays a huge role by improving the
condition and therefore increasing the mobility of the joints
& general well being.
In an acute attack, use of acupuncture symptomatically
can in truth be “a cure”. The relief of
muscular spasm and improvement in mobility will result in
normalisation of the bodies painful condition while the
systemic treatment, treating the root of the problem, will
create a stronger body and mind.
