Increases IVF Success
A Patient's Perspective - My story by Clare
After years of severe stomach cramps, painful periods
& being hospitalised I was given a laparoscopy to discover
that I was suffering with endometriosis at the age of twenty-two.
After 4 years of trying for a baby without success a second
laparoscopy was performed & I had laser treatment to
remove the endometriosis. Again we tried for 12 months to
conceive, but had no joy. I then received two IUI treatments
but both failed.
On the third treatment we were given a positive pregnancy
test, what a joy it was... but unfortunately I miscarried
at 8 weeks. We were devastated but we did not give up hope!
I under went two further IUI treatments, again more disappointment
– I miscarried.
A friend who had gone through the same pattern of failed
conceptions recommended that acupuncture treatment by Toni
Tucker may help with my problem. Toni is an experienced
midwife & consultant acupuncturist specialising in fertility,
infertility and care of women in pregnancy and childbirth.
I was relieved to hear that this paradigm of medicine, known
as traditional acupuncture, could assist with my conception.
This gave me new hope. I saw a light at the end of this
tunnel of darkness, within which I had been traveling for
years!
I had a consultation with Toni, who was reassuring, hopeful
and extremely helpful. She suggested individually planned
pre-conceptual care and recommended that using acupuncture
would hugely assist IVF treatment. She also referred me
to Jo Habberley, a nutritional therapist with whom she works
extensively, as described in the article below.
My consultant totally supported Toni's work and I started
my pre conceptual acupuncture programme, followed by the
IVF cycle treatment in London . Acupuncture treatment assisted
with process of egg collection and embryo transfer. My pregnancy
test was positive on the first attempt and I was delighted
with the news. My progress was monitored closely by my IVF
team as well as Toni, allowing me to benefit from her specialised
skills and experience within this field.
I am now 40 weeks pregnant and have had the most amazing
pregnancy. I did not show any reaction to IVF drugs such
as migraine attacks, weight gain and mood swings and suffered
no morning sickness. I have had an extreme sense of well
being throughout my entire pregnancy, which I believe is
due to acupuncture treatment. Any minor ailments such as
frequency, constipation and backache were also relieved
by acupuncture during my pregnancy.
Our miracle baby is now due and I am planning to have
acupuncture to help to enhance natural labour.

process, not an illness, women prefer to have drug free
modalities for improving fertility, unexplained infertility
and disorders of pregnancy and childbirth. While other therapies
are helpful, traditional acupuncture can be the principal

and obstetrics, enabling the practitioner to bring safety
and efficacy in caring for women during pregnancy and childbirth.

is the most beautiful and priceless gift we have ever had.
